Balls in the Bottoms – First Friday West Bottoms Weekend Event
100% Chance of Picturesque Snow at Tree Lightning Event Dec. 5 and Shopping Every Weekend til Dec. 22
KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI — West Bottoms visitors will be walk-in’ in a winter wonderland with the tree lighting Dec. 5 and a planned, beautiful snowfall. The District got a two-story tree for the lighting ceremony that kicks off the holiday shopping season in the District through Dec. 22 with the theme Balls in the Bottoms. Decorative Christmas balls will be throughout the area to bring holiday cheer inside and outside these iconic, historic buildings and brick streets.
Balls in the Bottoms’ tree lighting will be from 5-7 at Hickory and 13th. The special event will feature opera singer, Anthony Perkins Jr. singing Christmas carols and back by popular demand, the Grinch and Santa will be available for free visitor photos in this snowy, picturesque area. Shoppers will also be able to purchase drinks at the street bars and enjoy food truck fare outside. The Grinch and Santa plan to return for photo ops Fridays and Saturdays from 10-2 through Dec. 22.
“We’ve packaged the gift of wonderment and memories,” said Amber Arnett-Bequeaith, West Bottoms district spokesperson. “The shopping, foods, drinks, and photos from the West Bottoms are charming. Plus, most of the items sold in the area can’t be found anywhere else and appeal to anyone looking for special, unique gifts and decor – many of the vintage items have a story and a patina that makes the gift all the more interesting.”
The Festival of the Full Moon street event typically is just the First Friday weekend, but shopping and street entertainment will be the first three weekends in December. And in the spirit of the Full Moon festivities, a unique mulled cider will make December’s Cold Moon all the more momentous and warmer. Festival of the Full Moon will have a new theme each month. The 2020 schedule announcement of First Friday Weekend themes coming soon. January is expected to dazzle and delight with the Bejewels in the Bottoms event.
